Freddy’s Kosher Meat and Poultry Store: Miami Beach

The migration of new residents to Florida transformed the peninsula. Unlike other areas of the American South, Florida attracted many seasonal and permanent transplants who gave areas of central and southern Florida much greater diversity than was found elsewhere. For example, Miami Beach became a haven for Jewish settlers during the mid-twentieth century. This image of Freddy’s Kosher Meat and Poultry Store, taken in Miami Beach in 1985, represents one of many establishments that catered to the tastes of these newcomers.
