Harvest of Shame

This landmark 1960 “CBS Reports” documentary exposed the harsh living conditions of America’s migrant workers and led to stronger laws protecting workers’ rights. Journalist Edward R. Murrow chronicles migrant families toiling in the ”sweatshops of the soil” as the camera captures poignant scenes from their trek across the country seeking work. “We once owned our slaves,” Murrow quotes a farmer as saying. “Now we just rent them.”
