Tourism • Video

As Americans cultivated the tradition of family vacations during the 1950s and 1960s, Florida became a favorite destination. In these video clips, historian Gary Mormino describes Florida’s tourism industry before Disney, when theme parks such as Cypress Gardens exploited Florida’s unique natural environment. In one video, he recounts the fascinating story of how Walt Disney chose Central Florida in which to build Disney World, an event that molded Florida as a destination for more than 80 million tourists annually from around the world.
