The University of Florida Gators athletic team of football and basketball has been touted as the best overall in the SEC over the past twenty years, and during those decades, has also been acknowledged as one of the best in the nation. In 2011, the men’s and womens team together won the All-Sports Trophy for the over 20 years. Gator teams have been recognized as one of the ten best overall Division athletic programs in the nation in cup standings. These statistics are to be admired as there are so many other teams to battle.
Kevin O’Sullivan, Gator coach was named this year’s “Best Coach of the Year 2011″ in baseball. Billy Donovan has successfully coached Gator basketball through nine straight years of successful play. With these two men on the Gator team of assistant coaches, the Gators have neared record wins of all-time, and broken them; this is an amazing team effort on their part, and of course, the team athletes’ part. It can be said that these two men have led the Gators into their most successful decades since the team formed in 1904.
Their competion is tremendous; as it is, they have still come out on top as the winners. The Gators have also produced successful professional athletes, ever-proving the talent and performance of such a consistently well-coached team of athletes.
Chandler Parsons was signed on to the Houston Rockets just recently, reiterating the success of his college team and members of the Gator’s coaching staff. In football, top draft picks for 2012 are Gator players Brandon Jenkins, Andrew Datko, and Xavier Rhodes.
For Gator women’s basketball, Tim Riles leads the coaching staff and has brought his “Gator Gals” to the fully successful status they currently hold. Clearly, the Gator’s recent success seems to be unending , making this decade one to watch!
